OUR LIFE IN CHALABRE: An American Expat in the South of France

WORK BEGINS ON MOM'S HOUSE (June 2008) After much delay, work finally begins on Mom's house. She will move to the ground floor apartment, which is being completely renovated; we're also having the roof partially redone, and demolisahing the former attic to turn it into a spacious 3rd floor apartment with mezzanine. The Artesans of Chalabre (Gabriel Chevalley, Christian Drouin, Emmanuel Montoro, Stephane Montoro and Michael Padet) are on the job.   The front of the house before work began   The scaffolding has been erected   The new door and front window have been installed   The timbers for the new roof are being lifted up   Front room: future living room   Middle room: kitchen on the right   Middle room: entrance to the cellar and dining on the left   Back room: bedroom, and bathroom (to the right)   Reverse view: from the bedroom to the front room.
